Fabulous win for the 2nd XI yesterday. Having lost the toss and being sent out to field in the heat we made the perfect start as Josh Carter got the opener 2nd ball (ably assisted by some expert slip catching ?). Further wickets for Josh followed with Ian taking 2 catches before Falkland stabilised and reached 83-3 at drinks. A wicket in the 22nd over for Ben left Falkland on 90-4. Cue a “Churchillian” speech about maintaining control which was dutifully ignored by all and 8 “leaky” overs followed before Josh Carter and Richard Curtis wrestled the control back in our favour and a strong finish meant we restricted them to 230 - 4 wickets for Josh Carter. Then it was our turn, and boy did we take it. An opening stand between Josh Sandland and Simon of 87 before a quick flurry of wickets saw us on 94-3. Josh Sandland then took complete control and started placing boundaries all around the field seemingly at will. Ably assisted by Rich Curtis (14) and Krish (28) before bringing up his 1st 2nd XI hundred with a big 6 over square leg. Enter Ian who brought more serene pace and calm to the middle. Josh finally fell for a chance less 128 off 98 balls with us still 14 shy of the required total. Josh Carter then tried to take up the mantel but fell cheaply before Ian and I saw us home with 13 balls to spare. MOM would normally have been Josh Carter for 4 wickets on his return but this week belongs to Josh Sandland (even if he isn’t man enough for a hot Nando’s ?) Top work boys.
